Notting Hill-- Antiquing

I may have missed it, but I didn't notice any hill.

I love the movie Notting Hill. So romantic. I really liked Hugh Grant in that movie and 9 Months….and Two Weeks Notice. That one's probably my favorite. Well, we didn't see Hugh Grant. We did see hundreds and hundreds of people. Everyone must have had the same idea we did.

I thought that was alot...then We got to the main strip...

Portobello Road is this famous road that has a ton of antique shops and a farmers/food market.

I'm a sucker for both. They also had some beautiful doors. I know that sounds random, but I am a sucker for all the ironwork on wooden doors.

I love antiquing. I've never actually bought anything super antique, but it's fun to look at all the old stuff.  Poor JR and Milo got stuck with me going in pretty much every single antique shop on the strip.  I didn't go in to the western store.... I mean, I'm from the south....it's nothing new to me....but I can't picture anyone here walking around in some wranglers and a cowboy hat.... maybe there are underground line dancing places! That would be fun!

One of my goals is to find a pretty antique ring while we are here. I found one at a shop here. It even had an inscription on the back. Part of it was illegible.

"_____ Stanley  22nd January 1813"

It was an enamel and pearl ring.  Really pretty, but they wanted like £350 for it and honestly it didn't seem worth 500+ USD.  But I love old stuff. Like I wonder what the story is behind it. Is it a gift from her husband on their wedding date? or to commemorate the birth of their son? We will never know.

There is a huge antique fair further out of London that is held twice a month. I am definitely excited to hit that one up. I hope to be able to come home from Europe with some interesting things that we can keep for years to come….and then maybe pass along.  I love the ideas of passing old things to your children. It seems things are so much more meaningful if they have a story with them.

Do you have any tips for antiquing or any neat things you have found?

Kitchen Catastrophe

As I mentioned before. We moved into our new house last friday.....well technically we started sleeping there on saturday. On the floor. The hard floor. And my body isn't what it used to be. Someone should really explain to you that when you have a baby lots of things change....not just your stomach. My hips are fragile. Like old lady hips....they get sore all the time. Its ridiculous. Me sleeping on the floor is not a good option. I was so desperate that I wanted to pull all my clothes out of my suitcase, pile them on the floor and sleep on them. Luckily we bought extra pillows and I made a little makeshift bed. It was definitely not comfortable, but it worked. The movers came Monday and dropped all our stuff off. Two guys unloaded the entire house. Then they "Unpacked" our kitchen.  Check it out.

So this is what we have been working on. The rest of the house kinda looks the same... So we have our hands full. I will put pictures up as we get rooms organized. But I know you all are really interested in Milo. So here are some pictures.

Milo and JR dancing. She loves it and makes this face and does her snorting/sniffing laugh

All bundled up for the cold weather.

She found daddy's credit card already. She is definitely my daughter :)

She's getting so big

She stood up for the first time the other day. Without holding on to anything. It only lasted for a second, but she I have a feeling she will be walking in the next 6 weeks....Heaven, help us,

Wordless(ish) Wednesday : The Judds

The Judds… I love the Judds. Don't Judge me!  My mom used to listen to them when I was really little.
This is my favorite song
Grandpa, Tell Me About the Good Old Days.

I can't really explain how much I love this song. It makes me think of wonderful times riding in the car with my family, singing along with the radio, and all of my siblings telling me to shut up. The message is great though. I love hearing about "The good old days." I wish Milo could grow up back then. I'm so afraid of raising a child in this day and age. Today so many things are going wrong in our world and I wish there was someway to go back.... as long as I can keep my internet and cell phone :)

Milo's Hair

Normally when you have a baby you have to learn how to do a million new things…..breastfeed, changing diapers, suctioning their nose. One of the things you don't expect to have to learn for a while is styling your little one's hair. Well, Milo was born with super long hair. Like she could have donated to baby locks of love.

The nurse styled it for us at the hospital. It was so cute. I was going to put it in cornrows, but I don't know how :) so we kept doing the faux hawk….or just let it go crazy. She had perfect rock star bed head.

Then it got a little longer and she started looking like a hobo.

So I gave pigtails a try and to my surprise, she had enough hair.  Isn't She adorable.

But I got a little lost after that. I mean, I cant style it the same way every single day. But if we leave it down, her hair gets in her eyes. A clip works ,but she has so much bangs and her hair is so soft that it only holds for a little while.

Her hair kind of has a mind of its own.... and its not like I'm going to make her sit still so I can blow dry it or something.  Have you seen that toddlers in tiaras? That takes crazy to a whole new level. This is how JR styled her hair the other day…. The embarrassment has begun. I don't know what he was thinking. Even she looks irritated

Then in a bout of desperation I pulled her bangs straight back and clipped them. And what do you know? it looks good. But she would look cute in anything.

So the styles we have are: bangs clipped back, Bangs clipped straight back, and pigtails.  I tried putting it in a pony on top 'O her head….. but she looked like a troll :)   Anyone out there have any suggestions? Pretty Hair clips, new hair style, baby hair products (if there is such a thing).... Can anyone relate to the long hair?  I don't want to cut her hair. I'm just trying to figure out what else to do with it.

The Hubbs

He may wear plaid with stripes

He may use the wrong vocabulary

He may make the ugliest faces--every time he makes this face I want to poke my eyes out.... I don't know why he keeps doing it. Prolly because I despise it so much.

He may wear white ankle socks with shorts (instead of the proper no show socks)

He may pronounce words wrong.

He may be completely clueless in fashion

He may be pretty much color blind

But

He took such good care of me during the pregnancy and delivery

He works hard so that I can stay home and raise Milo

He makes Milo laugh louder than she ever laughs with me

He cleans and organizes

He does all the heavy lifting

He treats Me and Milo like a Queen and Princess

He gets the biggest smile watching her

He always does things for me without being asked.

He carries milo in a flowery carrier or hot pink stroller without thinking twice

He has the prettiest green eyes

He is my wonderful husband and an amazing father and I love him.
